Yikes! A Lot Has Happened!

Hi friends, it's been a long, long time since I've paid any attention to my website. Want to hear some excuses? Well, we'll begin and end them with a 5000+ km move from Antigonish NS to Claresholm AB in Sept 2017. So, getting a home etc etc has kept us plenty busy! There's been some gear changes resulting from a vehicle break in but all is fine now. I've been out-and-about in our area of S. AB a-plenty with many photographs to share. But I'll start with the most recent upload of our Aug-Sept trip in the Yukon, Northern BC & a bit of Alaska. Great trip, fantastic colour, can't wait to do it again. New Basic Course starting March 24th

While the white winter blanket has been nice for simplifying landscapes, spring will spring soon! I don't know about you, but I'm ready for Nature to put on that colourful spring quilt. So, in preparation for spring prospects, this is a good time to learn some valuable basic photography tips and techniques. If you are in the Antigonish NS area, register via Antigonish County Recreation (https://recreation.antigonishcounty.ns.ca/parksandrec) by March 20th for a fun bang-up 12hr (6x2hr sessions) classroom/3 hr field trip course! End of a Pacific Storm

Happy New Year - I wish you all the best for 2017.

I've added a Cuba Gallery with images taken during independant travel on 2 occassions. I shy away from resorts and scripted agandas, that way I get the feel of the place and it's people (we did stay at a 2-star last year in Holguin province). Cuba is a very nice, safe third-world country to visit with little restriction on movement even though it is a communist country. Please feel free to contact me if you would like further information and, if you are in the area, I'm giving a Cuba slide show as part of the Armchair Traveller series at the Antigonish public library on Jan 12th.

I've added a few images of Cuba to the Black and White gallery, great horned owls in Birds, and my fav of the bunch - a dead frog in Abstract. I took the picture of the frog laying dead on the bottom of a shallow pool of the river near my house. I was struck by the message it communicated to me. It's my idea of an abstract because I converted it to B&W, I reduced clarity to remove detail and I like the way the reflected tree branches and bottom features add interest.

I'll need some help to manage my page - I hope to avert messages about Billy Bob sharing Silly Sam's hangnail picture and that sort of thing!

New Gallery - Fall Colours

Hi, I just reviewed some photos taken on Cape Breton Is. Nova Scotia. I remember each one so vividly as they convey the sound, smell and feel of the surroundings. They remind me of the continued power of nice images as they help people, particularly the photographer connect with real life. What a great tonic on this day as our late fall, grey sky drips slush on the landscape.

My Zen Call

Holly, from Zenfolio, gave me great instruction yesterday resulting in a much nicer Website. Thanks Holly! Slush fell from our east-coast sky today which has me hoping for colder temperatures and real snow. A nice blanket of snow makes travel on foot, ski or snowshoe much easier than hiking and opens the countryside to exploration. Photographically, snow serves to really simplify landscapes; removing so much of the complexity that can distract viewers. Ethereal White

Oh My, So Many Photos

Yikes! It's taken 4 days to get through photos for 2011 alone!! Think I'll add a Wildlife gallery today with six photos. I took the pics of the prairie dogs and rattlesnakes (as they emerged from their hibernaculum) in Grasslands NP in southern Saskatchewan. It is a fantastic place with dramatic landscapes and complex ecosystems. Want the story behind taking pics this close to rattlesnakes? Ask and I will tell!

I'm Building

Hi, well I've been plugging away at my galleries and have added a few; the latest is of Birds which mostly shows pictures of bald eagles feasting on Silversides in the early morning at Jimtown NS. It took me 3 days of planning and practice to get these shots. I think they're OK. And you?

Well Here We Go

It's a rainy, gray day in N. Nova Scotia. Most leaves have fallen, it's mid-autumn and I await the first winter snow to brighten the landscape. What a great time to create my new website via Zenfolio and post my first blog. It's a bit of a learning curve and I've a lot of work to do but I can't wait to get some of my 40,000+ photographs out there. I hope you come along for the ride.
